GES4SEAS project aims to inform and guide marine governance in minimizing human pressures and their impacts on marine biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, while maintaining the sustainable delivery of ecosystem services.
As communication partners for the Horizon Europe GES4SEAS project, Science Crunchers is responsible for the all branding and communication activities. For the project’s kick-off, we needed to create a fresh and attractive visual identity and ensure a coordinated internal and external communication to engage both key stakeholders and society at large.
In response to this challenge, we focused on four unique wave elements representing each sea (Black Sea, Atlantic Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Baltic Sea) and incorporated them into a unified visual identity. The visual language − revolving around geometric shapes − allowed us to develop unique and diverse illustrations. This geometric approach ensured a cohesive and engaging visual identity for GES4SEAS.
One of the most popular outputs is the Ocean Cube: a Rubik’s Cube replacing colours with a metaphor for the complexity and interconnection of the components impacting the assessment and prediction of stress effects on the marine environment (which the project is aiming to explore and advance).
