Naturalist − Science & Tourism is a unique company founded by researchers from the University of Lisbon and the Azores, combining an academic background with nature Tourism.
Where exploration becomes knowledge
Naturalist was born from a simple but powerful idea. That exploring nature can be more than observation, and that every moment of wonder can contribute to understanding the world we live in.
Founded by researchers from the University of Lisbon and the Azores, Naturalist aims to merge scientific research with nature tourism. Not as parallel activities, but as one shared experience, where curiosity, exploration, and data collection coexist. This needed to be known, with a brand fit to the ambition behind it.
When Naturalist approached us, the challenge was clear. Despite the depth of its scientific work and the uniqueness of its experiences, the brand did not express what truly set it apart from its competitors. A science led approach to tourism that turns exploration into research and visitors into active contributors to conservation.
Our work focused on developing a strategic rebranding capable of unifying this dual identity. We built a cohesive brand narrative and a visual system that reflects both worlds. The emotional pull of exploration, and the rigour of scientific observation.
Imagery became central to this approach, with a dual visual language combining immersive real-life photography with a more analytical, scientific perspective. A way of connecting what is seen in nature with what is studied, measured and understood through science. Observation and analysis, side by side.
This system was supported by a natural and diverse colour palette, visually mapping the full range of experiences offered across the protected landscapes of the Azores. From land expeditions to bird and whale watching, each experience finds its place within a clear and intuitive structure.
The result is a rebranding that positions Naturalist as more than a tourism company. It presents a brand where adventure fuels research, tourism generates knowledge, and discovery becomes a shared journey. For visitors, for scientists, and for nature itself.
