Noise Pollution on Coral Reefs
International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI)
The International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) is a global partnership between Nations and organizations which strives to preserve coral reefs and related ecosystems around the world.
Challenge
The International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI), is “an informal partnership between Nations and organizations which strives to preserve coral reefs and related ecosystems around the world”.
The ICRI approached us with a request to write a scientific review manuscript associated with the effects of noise pollution on coral reefs and a slide deck on the same subject.
Since this is a topic that has only been recently addressed by the scientific community, the main challenge was the lack of accessible information on the subject and the fact that the few data actually available was quite dispersed.
Solution
Science Crunchers scientists started by reviewing the scientific literature associated with the effect of noise pollution, from different sources, on coral reefs. The team then wrote the manuscript focusing on what is currently known on the impacts of noise pollution on coral reefs and the knowledge gaps that must be addressed.
The main results were then crunched down and transformed into infographics that highlight the most relevant data and findings. A slide deck was built based on the infographics developed, combining visuals and written highlights.
The result was an exceptionally comprehensive and visually appealing presentation summarizing all the main findings on the effects of noise pollution in coral reefs.
