Challenge
OBIS is a global open-access data and information clearing-house on marine biodiversity for science, conservation and sustainable development.
The organization opened a vacancy to contract a consultant to develop Communication Materials. The goal was to develop visuals, a brochure, a slide deck, and videos.
The materials should highlight OBIS’ key activities and their extensive, complex, multi-step data collection and analysis process.
The Client’s expectation was to have visually appealing and easy-to-read, materials that could do justice to the institution’s work and legacy – not only in providing free-access to marine information but also on conserving and protecting marine ecosystems.
Solution
Science Crunchers carried out and extensive and thorough research to map all the Client’s main activities, projects, partnerships and data collection and management.
The writers worked alongside designers to tell the Client’s story and create a visual identity that was fully aligned with the Client’s mission and values.
The team used storytelling tools and concepts to develop both the brochure and videos, making sure all written information was useful and complemented by icons, illustrations and infographics.
The designers made sure to bring in the sea and sea life vibrant colours and dynamics, but also the human component with all its diversity.
The result was a set of communication materials built to honour OBIS’ extensive and essential work throughout the years and that stay in people’s memory. You can find the full brochure here.
